AUSTRALASIAN SKETCHER 1875
Oh could I taste again of those delicious luscious things
I could pardon him of robbery of other people's rings
I exaggerated principle, my duty I mistook
When I handed over to the law my peerless Chinese cook.
What would I give now for one of his superb ragouts,
His entremets, his entrees, his incomparable stews;
Oh, not a taste and piquancy my happy board forsook,
When I came the JP over my lamented Chinee cook.

Whenever the lads passed John Stormer's house in Gulgong they'd start the old chantey song 'Stormalong John', the refrain of which ran this wise:
Stormalong
He was an old man with a very long nose;
Eh, storm-along, John!
Who shuffled along on his heels and his toes
Eh, storm-along, John!
Get along, come along, come along Old Stormy.
One song I remember, was about a continuing squabble between two Irishmen, one Catholic and one Protestant and known as Lodder's Banks, in which occurred something like this:
Come here, you beef-steak eating sinner
And see a papist eat his mullet dinner.
