My Name is Edward Kelly

My name is Edward Kelly, I'm honoured vastly well,
I rule supreme, my word is law, wherever I may dwell,
My friends are all united, my mates and army near,
We sleep beneath some shady trees, no danger do we fear.

Now the first of my adventures, was thru my sister dear
Who was grievously insulted and put in bodily fear
And when I came to hear of this,. It made my poor heart ache,
I took to the bush to take revenge, all for my sister's sake.

I'm young and in my prime, I'm twenty four year's old,
I've spent some time in vanity, amongst young girls so bold
But now I am a-robbing, all on the King's highway,
We rob the banks, and shoot the traps but never run away.

In Mansfield that fair township, where I was bred and born
It's often I have roamed those hills from dark to early dawn
But now I am a robbing, loudly my guns do roar
It's there I shot bold Kennedy, which grieved my heart full sore.

The troopers they are all brought out to search the country 'round,
To bring in this notorious gang but the Kelly's can't be found
The Kelly's are in the ridges, the police drew up in ranks,
I think it's time, and off we go, to rob another bank.

I never would surrender to any coat of blue,
Or any man who wears the crown, belonging to that crew,
They're brave there is no doubt of it, when they are on their beat,
But it took ten traps to catch Ben hall, when he was fast a sleep.

I'd rather die like Jack Donahue, that bushranger so brave
Than be taken by the government, and be treated like a slave,
I'd rather die 10,000 deaths, as longas I've eyes to see,
I'd rather die 10,000 times than die on the gallows tree

Now all young men take my advice if you're bound for a roving life,
Do not roam but stay at home, select for you a wife,
For if you go a-robbing, all on the Queen's Highway
You'll have to fight with all your might, or else lay down and die
