Collected from JOE WATSON Caringbah, NSW Recorded 1973 onwards The Boot BlackOn passing through a village street I saw a large crowd assembled on the pathway by the green. And curious to ascertain the cause I crossed over and found it to be a dispute between two boot blacks a white boot black and a black boot black and they both had blacking brushes and blacking; and in the absence of customers the white boot black asked the black boot black to blacken the boots of the white boot black with blacking; whereupon the black boot black proceeded to blacken one of the boots of the white boot black with blacking. The black boot black refused to blacken the other boot of the white boot black with blacking until the white boot black paid him, the black boot black, with the usual amount paid for blacking. When the white boot black refused to pay the black boot black, with a blacking brush in his black hand, and a black thought in his black heart, commenced to give the white boot black a black eye. Then a Bobby arrived and it started to rain so I sprinted for cover! |
