THE STREETS OF SYDNEY

As I went out on the streets of old Sydney
I spied a young artist who was missing one kidney
His eyes were all bloodshot, his face was all green,
It was plain he'd been taking to much benzedrine.

Beat the dawn slowly and play the pipe lowly
Play the dead march as they carry me along
I'm a poor sinner, but as I grow thinner
I'm a poor artist and I know I've gone wrong

I went to a party of folks who were arty
I went to a party of folks who were gay
I went to a party of friends who were arty
I thought they were friends but they led me astray.

"I forget most of the rest except for these two lines"

In the days of my youth when I used to go drinkin'
First to the Long bar and then to the Lincoln…
