Jean Scott was a real find as I had been looking for songs of the female armed forces in WW2 and ABC radio producer, Roz Bowden, partner of ABC presenter, Tim Bowden alerted me to Jean's work. Jean was a member of the Land Army, the organization that maintained many of our rural industries during the war, and she introduced me to a network of fellow Land Army members. Jean wrote an excellent book on the Land Army titled 'Girls of Grit'

The following song was known to me since my father, George Fahey, sang one verse every time we saw a red-haired person. I learnt the song, thinking that was all there was to it, when Jean Scott sang the complete text I was delighted.
