I Got drunk Again

I had a handsome fortune that I thought 'would nee'r be spent
But I spent it all on gambling one night
when I got drunk my friends and my relations
they were all unhappy then
for I wore out all their patience
when I got drunk again

I took a trip to London
My mind bent on a trade
Here I met an old acquaintance
A dashing fine young blade
We were both jovial fellows
And happy were we then
We both strolled to a party
And I got drunk again

I took a trip to sweet Strathmore
My mind bent on a wife
Determined to live sober
And lead a steady life
It was there I married a handsome lass
And happy were we then
But we soon began to quarrel
And I got drunk again

On Saturday night my wages spent
but that's not the only thing
for my wife would sing the boy to please
'your daddy's drunk again'
now I am a sober man
these things I don't deny
determined to remain so
until the day I die

I've made a resolution
And I'll not disturb my brain
I'll mind my constitution
And never get drunk again.

Now too late my folly I see through this broad hours of life
to live sober the remainder of my life
And when I marry a handsome lass happy then were we
but she soon kicked up a bobbery and I got drunk again
