and JACK VAN EMDEM Beecroft, NSW 1995 TUNE: On The Banks Of The Wabash SITE SOURCE: Folklore Unit - People ON THE PLAINS OF THE 'BIDGEE FAR AWAYOh I have been asked to write a song for 'Quinty',And the doings of the WAAF down Wagga way, How we fought the battle of the Riverina, On the Plains of the 'Bidgee far away. We have planted lawns and gardens round our barracks And the fish ponds we have built are there to stay, We have caught the C.O. 's goldfish for our fish ponds, On the plains of the 'Bidgee far away. Now our C.O. is an ardent flower, lover, There is no one here who really can gainsay, Under his direction we have made our station, A beauty spot on the plains down Bidgee way. Every Monday night we dance here on our unit, And the WAAF wear frocks that have seen better days, Just to dazzle the poor unsuspecting airmen, On the plains of the Bidgee far away. We have sung about our fun and recreation, You will surely think that we play all the day, But at times we really strike a blow for Victory, On the plains of the Bidgee far away. Now when this war is over and done with, There are many who will volunteer to stay, Just to keep an eye on our dear old Bar 20, On the plains of the Bidgee far away. |
